Your contract with BT

BT says the contract for BT Business Broadband is made up of:

  • BT's General Terms
  • the BT Business Broadband Schedule, or the BT Business Broadband Ultra Broadband Schedule for Ultra
  • your Order
  • the BT Price List

BT publishes these on its business terms and conditions page. Some add-ons carry their own terms; BT's Business Antivirus Protection, for example, has its own 12-month minimum term. Where you bundle a Digital Line, the bundle terms apply too.

BT business services are subject to a credit check and business registration, and the person signing should be authorised to commit the business to the contract.

Minimum period and the annual price change

Each BT Business Broadband service has a fixed commitment period, which BT's terms define as 12, 24, 36 or 60 months as set out in your order. Ultra is sold on 36- or 60-month terms, and the term for every order is confirmed in your quote.

BT's terms apply an annual price change on 1 April each year, by the amount BT communicates when you buy and sets out in the BT Price List. BT's terms say this change does not by itself give a right to end the contract without termination charges. Our contracts guide shows how the change works across a full term.

Ending a service early

Either you or BT can end the service on 30 days' notice. If you end a service during its fixed commitment period, BT's terms set out what is payable, including:

  • a cease charge and any charges outstanding for the service
  • any de-installation charge and non-return fee for equipment, where they apply
  • a termination charge based on the monthly broadband charge for the remaining months of the fixed commitment period
  • any other charges in your order, and for Hybrid Backup on a term shorter than 24 months, its monthly charge for the rest of that 24-month period

If you move premises and install BT Business Broadband at the new address, BT says the outstanding minimum-term charges at the old premises are credited to your new account after installation; see moving premises.

Leaving without termination charges

BT's terms give you the right to end a service without termination charges in these situations, each with its own conditions and steps:

  • BT's minimum speed guarantee. If your download speed stays below the minimum guaranteed speed for your line and BT cannot fix it within the time its terms allow, you can exit without penalty. See BT's minimum speed guarantee.
  • The Complete Wi-Fi Plus guarantee. If Complete Wi-Fi Plus does not give a strong signal in the main building within the first 6 months after BT's remedies, BT's terms let a Pro customer end the contract, or an add-on customer cancel the add-on. See Complete Wi-Fi Plus.
  • Changes BT makes to your contract. BT gives at least 30 days' notice of changes that are not solely to your benefit, and where its terms say so you can end the affected service without termination charges by giving notice within 30 days.

Installation and excess construction charges

Any installation charges for your order are set out in your quote. BT's services are subject to a site survey, and for Full Fibre, Openreach surveys before any external work.

If the survey finds that more engineering work is needed than an installation normally requires, BT's terms call the extra cost excess construction charges. BT says these apply only in exceptional circumstances. They are agreed with you before the work goes ahead, BT only invoices charges actually incurred, and if you choose not to accept them, BT cancels the order for that site. Very rarely, Openreach may find after its survey that a two-stage Full Fibre install is not feasible. Our installation guide explains each stage.

At the end of the minimum period

When the fixed commitment period ends, BT continues to provide the service unless either of you gives notice. Any offer pricing ends and BT's standard price for your plan applies. BT sends end-of-contract notifications as the term draws to a close, and it is a good moment to review your plan with us.

Equipment and power cuts

BT supplies the hub and other equipment for your plan. If a service ends, BT's terms ask for its equipment back, such as hubs and Wi-Fi discs, and a non-return fee can apply.

Broadband equipment runs on mains power, so broadband and a BT Digital Line stop working in a power cut. Keep a charged mobile phone for emergencies, and check any alarms or care pendants that rely on the line. See the PSTN switch-off and your broadband.
